What is the difference between the strontium salt and magnesium salt?

 

Strontium and magnesium are different chemical elements.

 

Pharmacokinetic data (per the Full Prescribing Information for esomeprazole strontium) shows esomeprazole strontium delayed-release capsules to be pharmacokinetically (Cmax and AUC) comparable to esomeprazole magnesium delayed-release capsules.  Esomeprazole strontium was approved by the FDA based on the same adult safety and efficacy data as esomeprazole magnesium (Nexium®).
